Recommend hard drive cleaner

Looks like the Windows upgrades for 7 are having tons of problems.

When installing Windows 7 to replace my XP, I thought of doing a clean install rather than the upgrade.

What Drive cleaners can you recommend, free or paid, to prepare for a clean install ?

Any other suggestions for the transition would be helpful.

Thanks

You CAN'T upgrade XP to Win7....It will wipe your drive and do a clean install. No need to do anything else.

Yup, what he said. Just be sure to copy all your files to another storage device before you begin loading Win7. And plan on installing all of your programs again too.

I always use Killdisk, it seems to do a good job and they have a free trial version last time I checked. It overwrites everything with 1's and 0's. I am not sure but I think Windows always leaves a small footprint.

When I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 Ultimate, to Win7 Pro, I had to wipe the drive which Win7 did, after the upgrade win7 created a windows old directory which had all my user directories including documents, downloads, music, etc. I just copied, and pasted into the new install.
