Question HDD for OS?

Any thoughts on the size/cache/model best for an XP reinstall? Is there a point at which the HDD capacity is too large to be good for the OS and programs?

Thx,

32MB cache has pretty much become the standard now. I've been using 500GB (or somewhere thereabouts) for the O/S drive

HDD space is cheap and getting cheaper.

That's funny, I had the 640 GB model open in another tab. Didn't know if that was too big, tho. The Black models seem to be the only 5 year warranty drives, really. The 750 is the best price/gig, although the 640 has better reviews for some reason. Guess it doesn't matter which?

Yep, WD is the only one with 5-year now. Seagate dropped down to 3-year after they started having problems.

Nope, all the WD black drives are pretty much the same. There's a 1TB model too, if that interests you

What size is your current drive and how much space have you used-> Will help determine the size of the drive to purchase.

Newegg just advertised that WD 640 GB drive for $10 off in an email I got this morning. Ordered two! Seems big for a main OS drive, but it prolly won't make much difference... At least I'm hoping not...

Ezy, the drive I'm replacing is a 40GB from 7 or 8 yrs ago. XP is on it's own partition of 12 GB! There's not much space there any longer...
