Lost the modem icon

I have a weird problem. After having altered nothing with my machine, when I connect to the internet using my usual dial-up connection the computer connects and works as normal except that the connection icon fails to appear in the system tray.

This is more of a pain than a major problem but I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to fix it. I can go into Network Connections and shut the modem down from there but like I said it is a pain in the a***.

In the back of my mind I remember finding a window where it was possible to "Repair Icons", but I can't for the life of me remember where.

Can anybody sort me out.

Double click My Computer, dial up networking. Right click your ISP, properties. You'll see "connect using" for modem, click configure, then options tab. Put a check in "display modem status".

Sarge, Thanks for the reply. I remember this tab when I used Win 95 & 98 but can't find it anywhere in XP.
I have a few ISP's and the other ones work perfectly so I compared the settings of a known working one to the faulty one but all the settings were exactly the same.
Strange........
