Refurbishing old monitors

What would be a good source for learning how to refurbishing old monitors? It seems the best search engine on the net is PCMech. Yahoo and all the others just don't cut it these days. Please help me.

What kind of monitor are you trying to refurbish? And why? I'd imagine it's like trying to fix your TV set...Probably cheaper just to go out and but a new one...or...err...a refurbished one.

computergeeks.com have a few 17" crt under $80.00 right now

I was just curious how advantageous it would be to be able to refurbish myself. Just as a hobby. I also like to know about how things are done by the people that want to charge me lots o' money. That way I know if I'm being taken or not.

How happy are you with that Asus P4T-E? I was thinking of getting one.

The big problem with refurbing monitors or for that matter televisions, is that you cannot identify the componants without the manuals. These manual are really expensive or require a yearly fee to aquire. This is why most of the refurbs are done by the company that manufactured them or large scale refurbers.
Additionally most of the parts are not generally available to the public.
So it is much cheaper to replace than to repair.

I have done some repaires on monitors, and would not recommend it unless you had some tech training and a bunch of test equipment.

the p4t-e is a great mb when you use a northwood cpu and rambus ram, got xp-pro and I can't make it even burp.

I'm very happy with my P4T-E. The only "bitch" I had was having to upgrade the Asus Probe software because it was showing my CPU temp about 20'C too high. After the upgrade things were fine. Other than that, no problems! Stable, Easy setup, ASUS!
