I have the exact same scanner. Do you have it on all the time your computer is up? If not,it takes a while to warm up. I let mine on all the time and it takes only a minute or so to scann a picture.

Hi There,
Have the same scanner 5200c and I turn it on only when I use it.
Takes about one minute to scan first picture. WinME or XP same amount of time. Something wrong there.

Yep, Casey, you right, I should send my scanner to the service center or change it for another.
I'm so sad.

Have you tried uninstalling it completely and reinstalling it with the latest updated drivers? I believe this is a combo USB/parallel scanner, have you tried USB? It's faster than parallel. I also don't know if this is an affected model, but some HP scanners have a patch file for the lamp warmup.

What are your scan settings? I.E. how many dots per inch ect.you might be scanning to to high a resolution. I think 300 DPI is plenty for most work.

Yes, I downloaded and installed the latest drivers; even I re-formated my hard disk and reinstaled win, but nothing happened.

Yes, this is a combo USB/parallel, of course I connected it on USB.
Does the latest drivers need the patch for the lamp warmup?

Taking it to service is then the best option.

Ouch! , I was afraid that somebody tell me something like this; at least you didn't say "throw your scanner away and buy another one"
Thanks.
