UMAX Scanner Driver Update

For all of you with UMAX scanners, that found out the hard way, that they are now charging for driver updates, GOOD News.
According to Max PC the drivers are still available for free by going to umax-europe.com www.umax.co.uk or www.umax.de
according to the article, on these sites you can find the drivers for parallel port and outdated products also.

Does anybody besides UMAX charge for drivers? That sounds crazy to me. Hope it's not gonna become a common practice!

HP is starting to remove the full driver packages from their website for some printers and scanners and only offering free updates which require the original package to be installed from CD - and if you lose your CD they will send you a new one for a shipping and handling charge.
