Neither do I.
I hope someone replies with the answer coz it's one of the computing misteries I've always wanted to know.

In Win98se, I went to help and looked up Scroll Lock Key. Not much of an explanation, but has something to do with Accessibility, Togglekeys, etc.

Hmm, sounds like that key is a dinosaur from the DOS era.

Hi All,
The scroll lock was used to keep the page centered. Without it, the cursor would go up / down the page then the page would scroll when hitting the end. With scroll lock, you could keep your "work space" centered on the screen. It was kind of handy, but died out because nobody knew what it was or how to use it.

PS: it was a Windows thing... Don't remember it in DOS...

I use it in Excel on large spread sheets when I want to lock a particular cell as active but I want to view a far away cell.

The most use you will get out of the scroll lock key these days is if you have a KVM - set it to switch when you hit the scroll lock twice.

KVM = Keyboard Video Mouse
KVM switches come in many flavors from simple 2-switch units to switches that can be cascaded to control a multitude of machines. As Andrewxcav stated, you can use one set of Keyboard, monitor and mouse to control as few as 2 and as many as, well, I don't know if there is a limit, CPU's. Some KVM switches also include audio so you can utilize one set of speakers as well.
