DVD burner second cd rom

Hello people, going to put a DVD burner in a system ,it's my understanding that if I have a CD Rom in the system I can put a DVD in the Cd rom and copy it to burn on the DVD burnner. Is ther any special sofware needed or any other suggegtions any one has

Of course not. If you want to copy on the fly you need a DVD-ROM drive not a CD-ROM drive. You can put a CD in your CD-ROM drive and a CD-R or CD-RW in your DVD burner and burn the CD on the fly as DVD burners are capable of burning CDs as well.
And even with y DVD-ROM you can only burn single layered DVDs as dual layer burners will arrive in 2 months.

RJ is correct. You cannot read a DVD at all with a CDrom.
