If it was me, I would go for the Maxtor drive, as both are the same capacity, same RPM, and have the same cache, but the Maxtor is $30 cheaper.

I would go with the seagate, it has a lower seek time.

I would go with Maxtor because that is a quality hard drive. Seagate is just crap. It seems that newer Seagates are quality products again, but unless they prove to run for at least 4 years without problems I don't trust them again. Every Seagate (except one) that my friends and I had is dead.

and this

and save a bit of money.

Of those 2, I'd get the Maxtor for 2 reasons:

1. Cheaper

2. Better than Seagate in my opinion.

They are both 8mb cache drives and are Firewire capable. I much prefer Firewire to USB 2.0, it's a lot less flaky.

However, if I were buying an external prebuilt drive, I'd get this one:

Yeah, it's expensive, but it's huge and I prefer WD.

From the 2 in the beginning I would choose the Maxtor only because they are bette quality than Seagate.

Are seagate really that bad? I was looking into buying a new hard drive, and the seagate model was at a higher price than the western digital, and the maxtor, and had better specs.

Just because the Seagate was more expensive, doesn't mean its of better, or even equal quality.

I prefer proven reliability to raw specs.
