Customized Avatar Upload

Hello all,
I'm wondering how to get enabled to upload a custom Avatar. I see in the FAQ section that the "Administrator must enable/activate" the upload capability but I'm not sure how to go about it. Do I have to be a veteran member?
Thanks very much,
Stryker

Stryker, thanks for asking that question, I had been wondering about that myself. Guess I've got a long way to go.

I love creating custom graphics and animated gifs and stuff so I have some cool ideas for an Avatar. I guess we have to get in there and help out, although I enjoy helping out here anyway.

Why not let everyone just have their own custom Avatar? Dont get me wrong i respect the rules and i love this site, its helped me alot but wouldent it cut out alot of pointless posts by ppl trying to get thier post count up?

(with all due respect)

I completley agree as i cant see the point in having to earn the right to having there own Avatar. this forum is gr8 with good ppl and lots of useful advice but i would like to put my own avatar in now but oh well

If anybody with 0 posts can upload an avatar the system could (and probably will be) abused, with inapporiate avatars etc. With the 1024 post rule you have to work for an avatar, and when you earn it you can have a sense of pride, and having worked hard to earn it, you appriciate it a lot more.

I'm actually with "WhatsThisBoxFor?" guys, even thought I have a long way to go until 1024 posts. If anyone could do it, there would be all kinds of poorly formatted and cheezy images over there and it would cheepen the look of the forum. As far as putting your image in your signature, sorry to say I think it looks rediculous! signatures like these take up a significant amount of space and make the whole page look tacky. I say, signature should be system specs and maybe a little phrase. This serves a purpose and gives a little idea of personality but remains professional and blends with the page. For guys like myself who have taken the time even to match the colours of the page and shrink font sizes to take less space, signatures like TheMajor's kind of negate any effort I have made to blend the page (no offence Major). Put in your time and don't look at it as having to put up a bunch of useless posts. Get in there and help people and earn you Avatar!!

Don't take my word... by no means am I trying to be a moderator. This is just my opinion but others may think differently.
Thanks for the acknowledgement though Major.

We are presently discussing whether to even allow images in the signatures - due to a lot of abuse. Keep it low key, folks. This is a tech board, not a place to show off.

You can put avatars up from the start, just not customized avatars. I say, too many spoiled people around these days who don't want to work or wait for anything. I started this thread simply to see if there was a way, not to have everyone trying to change the rules. That's the way the pcmech folks have decided to operate the site and I am personally completely happy with that. And if you get customized avatars for people who have only posted once, what is there to complain about then? I'm sure everyone will come up with something!!

Help out some of the good folks at pcmech forums and maybe you can earn the right to post your own avatar. Until then, I suppose just forget I asked the question.
