Reputation points
In another forum I'm part of, running vBulletin 3.0.1, they have a reputation points system.
Here is a thread, just as an example. Each person's reputation points are in the upper right of each post. Basiclly, users can give each other points for a post. If a user things someone has provided good information, etc. A better explanation I was thinking that it would be good to have on these forums, to give people an idea of who can be the most helpful, etc. Just a thought. I see how it works, and the point, but I have mixed feelings. I think it will be a better count of someones contibutions than a post count, although I don't think the post count should be removed. On the other hand what makes PCMech great is how everyones contribution here is valued, and every member is treated with respect, if you introduce a 'feedback' system then it makes some members seem superior to others, and that new members with a low reputation, although they might be knowledgable, may not get listened to by people wanting help, over other members, and so not gaining points.
One thing to remember: Everyone here is helpful, I don't think anyone feels they are left out, and I don't think that should change. |

This is exactly why I have turned off the reputation system. |
