Sticky folder
I was just wondering if maybe at the top of each forum there could be a sticky folder titled "Stickies" and you click on it and that gives you all the stickies and from there you can click on the titles and read them. I got this idea because its a pain, especially on the forums that have alot of stickies at the top, to have to scroll past them all to get to the first post. I think it would help alot yet it would still be really simple to access the sticky threads. To make it even easier to see the stickes, maybe when you drag your mouse over the folder titled "stickies" you would see a complete list of evey sticky thread in the folder.

I don't think there are enough sticky's to entitle such a thing, and also it may lead to an even smaller number of members actually reading them, since if a search surpasses the limits, clicking on a folder would probably do the same

I feel the same way. Those stickies are at the top for a reason, so people see them...people will pass them up more often if there is only one "folder" at the top.

'I don't think there are enough sticky's to entitle such a thing, and also it may lead to an even smaller number of members actually reading them'
in the processors ETC section there are *nine* stickies which is about half of the posts displayed on the first page. also as you acknowlege, not many 'newbies' read them anyway. they are also never edited and have a huge amount of user-specific discussion in them which aren't going to help anyone else. however i do see part of the other side of the arguement.. i dont think a stickies folder would be very productive.. no one would ever look at them. i would propose instead that they (some) became articles (edited, to the point, and not about one users problem- thats for the forum at large not so-called 'informative' stickies) and all were *linked to* (with a simple text link) at the top of the forums, so that they could take up much less space.. fitting several on a line, and less obtrusive, yet still clear to see- probably stand out more from all the posts. however i doubt that anyone will bother to put in the work to change it, albeit a very small amount of effort needed... |
