Unhappy Logging in problems

Hi all

Just thought I would ask. Anyone else experiencing same Logging-in to the site problems over last week that I am please?

Obviously we know our user name and whether it is in lower or uppercase. OK occasionally we may forget our password initially - but completely? I honestly don't think so and I have tried up to about 4 times changing case as well. But I also know which case I use anyway to login. So all this seems a mystery.

In about last 6 days I have been refused entry using what I know is correct information. Then I download a new password - and so it goes on. About 3 times in that period. Each time I change back to the password that I always use and then it throws me out a day or two later.

Is it just I am unlucky or there is a problem with this Log-in.
Not complaining... just puzzled why this for me anyway, has only just started happening.

NTL my ISP has been down with email sending and receiving (and still is) so getting new logging in details from yourself tonight has been a nightmare. I went on to webmail, but for a while the emails did not come through - it seemed not to like the route for some reason. I usually use O.Express straight through to their server. However something eventually arrived and so did I!

Anyhow, here I am, and GLC I do accept your cookies (at least one I have recognized tonight) it has the site reference and is 457 bytes. I am in constant communication back and for with Bryan at PCMech.com and he has set my password to a very simple word to make things easy. And then during the course of 1 evening you can log out, and come back in say 2 hours and it will throw you out again.

Here is an extract of an email I sent following what happened yesterday after Bryan reset it.

"Thanks. Went up, logged in OK and have done a posting in motherboards
tonight.

Logged out and have just returned 5 minutes ago, tried twice to log in with
[in here was the password] in lowercase. No chance!! It threw me out on both occasions - so I thought I should let you know straight away."

I am waiting for some response to this. Maybe all the email upset at NTL is preventing me from getting his reply to this.

All I know is I am a simple - non-complicated user of the site. I don't mess with settings and "play" because I don't know enough. Since August it went like a dream and then in the last I think 2 weeks it is not responding well at all.

That's all I can say - just to tell you as it is.
Kind regards.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but I've yet to have login problems here, and I've been here for several years.

OK I will just press on and see how things turn out. I got in without trouble a few moments ago. I have no wish to leave this site because it is a mine of information and a pleasure to communicate here with the people who give of their time to assist others.

Based on what I just written above, you can imagine how worried I was to have a situation evolve over which it seems I have no control. But fingers crossed I may find somehow the logging in procedure will continue as it did today, with no problems. I managed to log out and come back in again within 15 minutes without that error message appearing.

Regards.

Send a message via ICQ to drisley
ukdave, Bryan forwarded your message over to me because he was stumped by it. If you accept cookies from this site, you should have no problems logging into it. And, from your last message, you seem to have gotten in. So, if you have an issue with it, just post here again.

Thanks.

i have to say, i have also had problems logging in with what i'm sure is the right password. eventually it seems to work and i haven't had to reset my password.
i have had no problems when using the 'remember me' thing however. which i suppose is what your saying about accepting PCmech cookies?

"And then during the course of 1 evening you can log out, and come back in say 2 hours and it will throw you out again."
same for me.

i am also using NTL (email problem is a pain in the ****) but IIRC there have been no problems logging into other sites, so i wouldn't have thought it would be an ISP issue. especially if marvontherim is experiencing the same. but small possibility i guess?

I use NTL, and from my home computer have never had a problem. From my school computers, I have intermittent problems with logging in. It is as you have described, and when I get home, my password works fine. I think it might be a security problem (with the schools security settings), since it hapens, although in different ways, to a couple of other websites. It even happend to some other vBulletin forum I signed up to just to see if it would happen. Dave... check your IE settings, maybe try using an alternate browser? Although if it doesn't happen again, then their is no need.

i have had the same problem, sometimes after the third or forth time it will accept the password. this has happened using both IE, mozilla and mozilla firefox. always eventually does accept it though.

Once and a while I have the login problem when I try to login while I have an open thread, I will get an invalid username and or password prompt, however I can go back to the main forum page and I do not have any problems what-so-ever. In fact I just had the problem logging in from this thread (see attachment) but I was able to go back to the main page a proceed from there.

I took another screenshot of where I'm having the trouble at an it seems to be the only login area that causes me trouble. I can login from the reply button or on the main page just not in the area outlined in the pic
