..timing out followed by error

ok so when i login, then type a lengthy message or for whatever reason a lot of time passes between logging in and submitting the post.. when i then press submit, it tells me i'm not logged in (understandable since time passed), but then i log in and then, instead of working and sending my post off happily as it should do, it always tells me the thread cannot be found or something like that.

can't it be fixeddd somehow please, cuz if u type a long message, then lose it *all* and have to start again, it can be veryy annoying.

I have experienced that from time to time, but not so much lately after I had ADSL installed...
* Do you have a firewall running?
* How are you connected to the internet? (dial up, Broadband etc)
* Also given you are in the UK (as I am in Australia) you could just be experiencing some delay in packet transfer between your computer and the host of this forum and back. It has to go a looong way.

Oh, what i do If i have a long post and don't want to lose the info.... when you have finished typing click in the box where you have been typing and press CTRL and A (select All), which should select all your text then press CTRL and C (copy), then you can either open up a text editor (word or notepad etc) or press reply to post and press CTRL and V (paste) in a word document or back in another post. Just a tip

An excellent suggestion HyperTF!
I do the same thing with Notepad and it has saved me a couple of times.

^i do the same thing with notepad too usually, but i'd rather a solution than a work-around. (sometimes u forget to copy, or then u go and use ur clipboard for something else by mistake, or whatever) whats really annoying is once i went back or something, and my message was there in the reply box, but greyed out.. so when i pressed the reply button it cleared it all!

"Are you allowing PCMech cookies?" well at the time i had the 'remember me' thing disabled, as i was not on my own PC, and the cookie settings were whatever XP Sp2 + IE does by default

it has XP sp2 firewall @ default AFAIK. there is a possibility i had disabled it (pain in the @*$£) but i dont think so.
i have broadband 750k down, 128k up (uh lame), and PCmech is not Aus based is it? i always figured it was US based.. which is nearer to me than for you.. anyway, the internet seems to work pretty well globally for me lol, never got an error message 'sorry this page is located too far from you, move to a nearer country to view it' (other than Bush's site blocking those outside of the US before the election ) also theres a lot of UK people who post here too.. i dont think its an issue with my setup just that the PCmech site doesn't remember what u've posted and then let u confirm ur login and post the informationnn..

lol, you sort of got what I said confused, or I was just plain confusing ha ha. No as far as I know, it is US based. Could be a few things... there is a bit of advertising which may get refreshed etc.. could be a combination of factors on the odd post... as I said, it happens for me too from time to time but not so much recently. I am sue there is a lot of effort to submit a post as far as data communication and acknowledgement and all that to and fro-ing... it actually still amazes me just how fast we get information anyway... and it is only meant to get faster.... much faster.
I don't think this post even remotely helped...ha ha... sorry, I am in a weird mood.
