Auto Refresh

Don't even know if it is possible or how it is even done, but do you think that at least the forum homepage could be auto refreshed. If you are a sports fan you might go to cbsportsline.com and there they use auto refresh that refreshes like every second, you could practically watch the clock countdown. It is, for the lack of a better term, annoying to keep refreshing to see what is going on around the forum and new posts that were just posted.

If you use Mozilla Firefox, just get yourself a plugin called "reloadevery", which allows you to specify in what intervals the page refreshes, when to enable it, etc.

Refreshing a page every second will put the bandwidth bill up a bit. You can click New Posts to se all new posts, and just refresh that every 3/4 minutes rather than refreshing the homepage a lot. If every user who left their browser open on the homepage while visiting another site I do not think it would do great things to the server, although if you do as Kram says only you refresh it and so unnecessary hits on the site are not really a problem.

Why would it be any different than people manually refreshing the page?
That doesnt increase bandwidth does it?

Send a message via AIM to MrAustin
Bandwidth is not used when a cached image is loaded, or cached content is loaded. Only when new content must be loaded is it used, so the auto refreshing plug-in, or manually refreshing the page would not hinder bandwidth as much as one would think.
