Career section

I would like to see a section that delt with how to establish youself in the IT field.
For example, what type of courses and experience you would need in order to become a PC Tech or Network Admin or whatever career you chose for yourself.

I would like to know as well. My current job situation isnt going well. I work at an Auto Parts chain. Used as a "Manager" without the title for almost a year. Now they seem bent on making sure I dont even make 40 hours a week. The company I work has me do some work on the stores PC's. Like today, When the replacement office printer showed up. The replacement has a problem. But I was able to get around it till the replacment for that one shows up. The switch on the outlet tray is bad. Keeps telling me to remove the paperwork in the standard bin.
I do have an interest in PC's. Have built several for myself and others. Done some Repair and Upgrades. But Never actually spent a day in school. Now I am working on a Network for my 3 PC's and File Server. Setting up a Wireless LAN. Just need to locate a PCI card for my AMD64 system. Preferably on the 108Mbps setting.

I have looked into this job change thing myself a little bit. From what I see the key word is certifications. I have a freind who is a 3rd level senior network specialist. ( DATA GOD ) He worked another field for a long time. Now going back to it he says the same thing. Certs certs certs. I may be wrong. But if he has to go back to school to gets certs for what he already knows better than most, I would have to say certs.

Folks, this is a topic best discussed in General Discussion. We aren't going to establish a separate forum just for this topic, and we do see threads in General Discussion about this on a continuing basis. Thank you for your suggestion.
