Ever thought of having a forum dedicated to Wireless Everything? Bluetooth, wireless router, wireless mouse, keyboards, cell phone issues, laptop communications via wireless?
Seems like it would be a logical forum theme, eh?

We have one: Mobile Technology
edit: re-read your post... That would kinda make things tougher, though, to have to talk about corded mice in one forum, and wireless mice in another, etc... Last edited by TwoRails; 09-30-2006 at 07:59 PM. |

Yes, agreed, but I have a workstation which uses wireless every day, and it is not mobile: a desktop computer. So where would that fit? A bit of cross over is required, no matter what the situation: a discussion of an OS many times must mention the application, and a discussion about memory also must discuss hardware and software, etc, so it is a necessary evil, I am thinking. |

Agreed: many times it's hard to pick single forum. I've done posts that could easily "fit" into 3 or 4 different ones: is it a Windows problem? a hard drive problem? or the motherboard? etc

That's why there is a wonder team of forum moderators and administrators who will move threads to the appropriate forums when necessary.

Yes, no doubt. The same time, at some point in the past, decided it was worthwhile to pull hard drives away from other hardware issues, so I am asking simply: given the importance and pervasiveness of wireless"ness", is it worth dedicating a forum to the theme? Again, this is just an idea. |

Seems to me that the wireless items you've listed most often have issues unrelated to their wirelessness. Bluetooth is a technology rather than a device but the other items all seem to get handled quite well within their currently appropriate forums. Plus, I think the creation of a wireless device forum would lead to a LOT of moderating and moving of threads. Example: Someone has a wireless mouse that's not working correctly so they post the issue in the wireless forum. But later it's determined that the problem is unrelated to the technology and instead involves an issue with a PS/2 adapter. This would logically suggest the thread be moved to the Peripherals forum.
Another example: Issue involves a wireless router so once again it is posted in this new Wireless Device forum. The we find out the poster is trying to add a wireless router to a system with a dedicated modem/router and the issue is unrelated to the wireless technology. Once again a moderator will likely have to move the thread to the current Networking Hardware forum. Personally, I think this would add too much confusion. "Wireless" typically includes some form of Mobile Device and we created a new forum not long ago to address issues related to Mobile Technology. |

Can't argue with any of that, except to say that if you take the word wireless out of all of the above sentences and insert the words " hard drive ", then everything you said would still be true, but about the hard drive. Is it the controller? The OS? An improper formatting of the HD? A cable not fully inserted? Is the software application accessing it in a way that makes it seem like it is not functioning properly? All new technology eventually finds its own home, its own category, and when we had only floppy drives hard drives were not prevelant enough to have their own category called " Storage ", but eventually someone created a new category. |

We appreciate the suggestion, but we are trying to keep it as simple as possible here, which means a minimum amount of different forums. We feel we have a good balance right now.
