Joke popups.

Whats with these joke popups on the forum? On my main PC they are blocked but on my Win ME rig they appear. They are advertising a "Joke toolbar" that I am sure is malware. Why are they here?

PCMech's gotta make money too! And it doesn't really matter if the advert are malwares in my opinion, I wouldn't click on ANY advert. They're all just as bad as each other to me.

We do not advertise any malicious sites. Can you post a screen shot of the ad liambl?

I just now got a "free music" pop up when I entered the site. Must be a new ad here...

Just got a popup when I loaded this thread funny enough. I didn't think to screeny it though. I don't think it is malware, I get it on all three of my PC's and only this site. Now that I am trying to get it to popup so I can screenshot it it doesn't want to.

Logout then log back in again, I always see the popups when I clear my cookies and temporary internet files, logging out will delete the cookie that prevents the popup.

Ok I got the screenshot. As rjf said it only appears after clearing the cookie cache. I had to reduce the quality signifigantly cos' I'm only alllowed images upto 100kb. I had to turn off popup blocker because my ME rig couldn't resize the image.

As I have said I get it on all 3 of my systems and ONLY this site, never get it anywhere else. But as an added precaution I ran AVG and Ad-Aware which came back clean on all 3 systems.

But isn't it malicious? It seems very much that way. And what is it for?

I forwarded your concerns to David Risley (PCM's owner) to check it out.

I have just disabled popups and popunders for PCMech from Tribal Fusion.

This might have a little impact on revenue here, but I don't want to have the reputation for the "popup site".

Let me know if you guys notice a reduction in popups. You should.

I was wondering why I was getting nailed with Tribalfusion windows when I was loading up the main site. They went right past the Firefox popup blocker. Good move and thanks, David.

Wow. I'm not a premium member and still never got that.

Interesting.

But thanks David, now I know I won't get that in the future either.

I did get the same ad at some point too. Pop-up Stopper and Google toolbar usually just click away though. Recently I have noticed it so much, great improvement!

Peergaurdian 2 blocks Tribal Fusion. Great if all you visit is the forum, but totally a pain if you visit the main page.

Perhaps one of your security programs was blocking it, I found that the popup blocker in IE did the job, but the way it notifies you is a little annoying.

IMO it's as bad as the pop-up itself lol.
