How about a system guide?

A system guide would be really helpful, and in my opinion, is the main thing holding PCMech back from reaching the very elite status of tech websites. Tech report just released a new one for February

I think that many users would find this extremely helpful. Perhaps incorporate it into PCMech EDU? If you think this a good idea, sound off! Maybe Dave will listen =)

Or are you talking about those guides that suggest certain parts to use for each catagory of computer (budget, basic, gamer, multi-media, etc...)?

PC Mech hasn't reached the very elite status of tech web sites? Who determines that?

That wasn't a very good review though. Everything they recommended didn;t seem to fit. I mean, they used an average processor, on a cheep board with expensive ram and video cards. Then, the price they gave was wrong too. SMH.

I mean a guide where parts are recommended for different price categories. Things like a processor, HDD, memory, etc. I didn't mean to knock PCMech, it just seems like that would be a very worthy addition in my opinion.

Things change too often. What's the best recommendation (and ANY recommendation will be partially based on someone's personal opinion) today may not be next week. I ignore this type of article on other sites, by the time it gets posted it's usually stale information.

We appreciate the suggestion and we have indeed discussed it previously among the writing staff. But as glc mentions, the technology changes too fast. It wouldn't be fair to our members to ever risk outdated information. So the forum is here to keep us all up to date.
