Having a resolved button
Hi...
On the Ubuntu forums, after a question has been resolved, there is a place where you can click and highlight resolved and then that closes most of the discussion in that question. Might be nice to have something like that here. Of course it also helps if all the members new and old know about it....after being a year on the forums, I just found out about it a few months ago. Anyway...just a thought

Interesting idea.
Sounds like it could be useful.

A site I mod at does the resolved thing and inserts an icon....90% of the times the mods are the ones that have to mark the threads. It is cute when its used properly.

Interesting idea...I've brought this up in the admin forum for discussion.
I tried looking quick for the actual mod, but wasn't able to pinpoint where to find it. Do you happen to know the actual name for it?

I have to tell you that I'm unaware of how the Ubuntu forums do this. I know they use software called vBulletin and I would have to guess the code is in that application.
I'm sure if you asked one of the moderators at Ubuntu forums, they could tell you. |

I sent an email to a friend that has set it up on a couple of sites.
I'm pretty sure its not a vBullentin "hack" since he doesn't do hacks. The option that is only visible to the OP and site staff shows up under thread tools. (see pic) |

they are resolved. So many times, after a issue is resolved, valuable info can be added to the topic or related issues discussed that would benefit someone else having the same problem in the future and closing the thread will only stop that from happening. My vote is to keep threads open. HOWEVER, on an excessivley long thread where many things were tied to fix the problem , if the person who was helped would make a final post that summarized exactly what solution was, it might make sense to close that thread. This makes sense because a person with a similar problem can read the first and last message in the thread to resolve their own problem. ---pete--- |

Well maybe you can set it where the thread does not have to be closed. It would just allow people to see that the original problem was solved and if someone is searching threads they can find a solution quickly. But if others have more information to add, they can do so.

And for what it's worth, the "Resolved" deal is a "hack" so to speak....Meaning, it's not a built in option but one of many customable things a gifted person can manually add.
