mIRC keeps disconnecting with new ADSL connection
hello,
i never had a problem with dial-up connection and now have ADSL. i havent used my mIRC for a while and now it keeps disconnecting "ping timeout"after a few minutes and get message "software caused connection abort" i have just updated it to v 6.15 and i am registered. i have norton internet security including firewall which is set to allow mIRC. also i have spyware blaster running , spybot search and destroy 1.3 immunized with tea timer enabled .there is also a firewall on my origo 8400 ADSL modem router, which i have not checked and i dont know if this is the problem and how to correct it.when i checked at grc.com all ports were stealthed. i am running windows XP pro and the ICF is unticked. any ideas? TIA JP

Hmm. I dont know what to tell you, but i would suspect a problem with the firewall, mirc, xp or any combination.
I've never had probs with mirc and my cable connection... but then again i still use old (sometimes better) versions of mirc prior to 5.4. Could also be the server your connecting too. Some servers might boot you if their pings dont come back. Would be interested in learning from you when you discover what the problem was. Post back to us and let us know how it goes. |

You have too many firewalls. If your router has a firewall, ditch Norton.

under advice from origo they suggested setting the modem firewall to accept the IP,channel and port im connecting to with mIRC.
i cant suss this out even with the manual, so i've switched the firewall off.(recommended by some of the members) GRC.com says the ports are still stealthed but receives ping requests. mIRC is working fine so thats how i'm leavin it for now, until i can get my head round the latter. thanks to all for replys |

Well you dont necessarily need to ditch your firewalls, you just need to get them working together and not against each other.
I run both a hardware firewall and a software firewall and i use NAT and DHCP. Some softwall firewalls aren't so easy to configure. If you're using norton, it might be the problem. Try McAfee. It's never done me wrong and its easy to configure with routers and other stuff you might have conflicting. ![]() XP also has that built in firewall. Might be your problem. |
