Internet Explorer Help
The problem i have right now is that when i click on a link to download a file it automatically downloads the file on a temporary folder and when it is done it opens by itselfe...
Before this problem it use to be like you all know, a window comes up and it asks you where and if you want to save this file... This is where i want to come back to ... I unmarked the thing that ask you if you want windows to ask you when you download files by accident ofcourse and now i cant restore it... its internet explorer 6 on Windows XP... so the program isnt under the installed programs as you know so i could restore all setting and repair ie 6... I have went to tools/internet options/Security and/Advanced and clicked on restore everything.. but with no luck there... On tools/internet options/Security ... where you can change many different setting, there are two options there though about downloading files, but it only has two things to choose from and its Active and inactive...there is no "ask" options ... so now i have nothing to go after, am i looking at the wrong place ? This is really a big problem for me i am going crazy about it... ps: i know you can do "save as" but thats not what im looking for... |

Need to edit .zip, .exe etc File Types in Folder Options. There's a box "confirm open after download" that needs to be checked.

Lacki_K,
If you double-click on 'My Computer' then click on 'Tools' you will see 'Folder Options'. Click on 'Folder Options' and then click on the 'File Types' tab. You will then see a list of various file extensions and their descriptions. Find the file extensions you want to prompt you after download, click on the file extension and then click the 'Advanced' button near the bottom right corner. Within the 'Advanced' window you should see a box labeled 'Confirm Open After Download'. If it is not checked, check this box. HTH, -LW |

Instead of left-clicking on the link, right click it and pick "save target as..." I think that's the piece you're looking for.

I know what Lacki is asking
Basically, there used to be a box that came up that said "this is a potentially dangerous file extension, are you sure you want to download it", and then you could either proceed or cancel the download if you didn't want it on your computer in case it brought a virus with it |

Taken from another forum:
run 'regedit' and find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip check its value which in my system it's "winrar.zip". It may defferent in your system. Then find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\winrar.zip , please replace "winrar.zip" with the one in your system. Under that registry key, you may find a value "EditFlags", delete it. Then you can try to download a zip file again. The dialog shall appear. |
