Audacity can edit mp3's, its at http://audacity.sourceforge.net I use it and think it is very good, although I have heard that there is better.

Audacity is a very good free program. I use it mostly to record things and then I use Goldwave to edit because it has more powerful features. Goldwave is a fully functional trial with an unusual way to limit usage. You get 3000 clicks before it runs out. I have never used up those 3000 clicks though.

Are all the keyboard shortcuts in the trial functional? If they are you could keep using it for a very long time.

I haven't used the shortcuts but I do believe they are functional. I did forget to mention that you have a 150 click per sessiong limit. However, I just recorded 13 songs from a cassette and edited them in Goldwave and I only hit the limit on the last song. Even after you hit the session limit all it does is come up with a box every ten clicks where you click cancel.
