Best App to Rip and Encode MP3s !

I buy alot of CDs and I love ripping the songs and putting them on my computer. So I'd like to know what is the best app to rip and encode Mp3s! I know I could use any app but I'd want something thats good and keeps the song quality high, and has high compression.

I like Audacity for everything audio, but I think there are better for ripping etc, Gold Wave is supposed to be good at effects and things, but it is not free, although you get a 3000 click trial (with keyboard shortcuts working ). See what other members use.

I don't believe Audacity and Goldwave rip MP3's. They are editors. I have always used WMP9 and it works great for me. Though it encodes in WMP format it sounds the same to me. I ripped my entire CD collection (95+ hours of music) With WMP9 and it all sounds great. I ripped it at 192kb/s and it takes up 5.5 GB.

CDex - best ripper on the market. EAC is good as well, maybe even more precise, but takes forever to rip one CD.

That's a good reason. Anyway, I was also going to mention CDex as that is the only other one I have used.

I use EAC with Lame MP3 encoder. It works really well, even though it takes a long time I can rip to like 320KBPS. Try it out.

I use the same thing and am very happy with it. I highly recommend it.

What bitrate are you using? If you are ripping at 320kbps or at a high VBR, you can get very large file sizes. I use 192kbps for all of my rips. It gives you a pretty good sound, and doesn't eat away too much space.

Thx Andy. I've seen 15 MB for a song running at 320 bitrate, how can I get my songs to be like that? or was I just mistaken??

Yes. Download it here.

What file sizes are you getting now? Still at 10MB/Minute? That's awfully high. Make sure that you have the right bitrate selected, and make sure that you are using MP3 and not WAV or AIFF, or some other sort of audio format.
