Updating Bios
Hello all,
I'm curious about updating bios, now i just put together my system below and updated the vid card and sound card drivers. I also updated Win XP. I know you can update the bios but is it something u should do as soon as u get ur new board? And if so does it increase the performance? and by how much? Also do i have to update things like the DVD rom and CDR optical drives? Thanks for any insight that you guys can give me. theyosh

Go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available. Generally, you should only update your BIOS if you need to. You would only see a speed increase if the BIOS update fixed something that was buggy.
DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives don't need to be updated (I don't think you can update most of them anyway). Sometimes you can update the writers, though. Again, check the manufacturer's website. |

Like Gonzo said, there's really no reason to update your BIOS unless you're having a problem that the newer version fixes. So no, I wouldn't update. I'm still running my board with the original BIOS from almost a year ago, reason being, I havent had any problems, and I haven't added any hardware that would require a BIOS fix.
