How do I remove a file that was downloaded. I tried, I recieved a message stating: Access denied, make sure disk is not full or write-protected, and that file is not in use.
How do I remove write-protection? I didnt know my hard drive was write-protected. Disk is NOT full. And file is not in use. |

Go into Safe Mode and try to remove it there. Tap the F8 key on start up to get to the test screen that offers Safe Mode as an option. If that doesn't work, try renaming it in Safe mode first and then deleting it.

Try closing every process that is not needed then try deleting the file.

First, try what Panama Red suggested, as Safe Mode usually works in these situations.
If that is unsuccessful, download MoveOnBoot, which will almost definately delete the file. Alternatively, you could try deleting it through the command prompt, although this is a more involved option. Instructions for this are available here. Hope that helps Mike |

Tried everything you suggested, except renaming. There is some kind of write-protection on it or something. I noticed theres a few other files that have same thing. Basic word proccessing documents. I dont understand. Normally not a problem, but I hate getting stumped.

I've never had this persist past a reboot, but if Word is editting a document and it crashes, this can happen. When Word is editting a file called file.doc, it makes a hidden lock file called $file.doc in the same folder as file.doc. While $file.doc exists, it seems you can't touch file.doc.
So make sure hidden files are shown (in Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options -> View). Look for the $file.doc, and delete it. Then you can delete file.doc. |
