Send a message via Yahoo to tarawalsh_lfc
Outlook Express

Hey.

My dad's email is completly over run with spam, he uses Outlook Express. When he opens Outlook it says that he is recieving like over 750 emails, although it starts to recieve them, it stops at Recieving 3 of 750(or however many, it grows everyday). Eventually it stops recieving and this message comes up

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.cablesurf.com', Server: 'mail.cablesurf.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

Any ideas?

Thanks, Tara!

Been using this for a couple of months now. My Spam went from about 60 a day down to a couple. And it's FREE!

Also what anti virus program if any are you using to scan your incoming E-mail?

I would recommend going to your ISP's webmail program (I'm assuming you are using cablesurf.com so check out : http://www.cablesurf.com:8000/index.mml ) and delete all the spam and infected mails. Then check out OE settings, it is likely that you havent set it to delete downloaded mails.

If 750 is an accurate estimate of how much spam you receive. It may be time to firstly, change your online habits of supplying your email to every site and everyone (most of us use a Yahoo/Hotmail account for such stuff); then look into investing resources in a spam blocker.

Cool

go to the mail2web site here and use the full user name and password used to access Outlook Express e-mail account. This will hopefully allow you to access the e-mail messages being held at the ISP server.
There might be some corrupted messages, and you might have to manually delete any or all messages at the server.
cheers, ~pawprint~

I was talking to some IT people at work and they suggested that you remove outlook express altogether. She tried to explain the reason behind it, something about weakness and other things that just make it more prone to attacks.

Good luck. -

There are only 3 ways I know of to blow off the mail on the server that's choking Outlook Express. It's probably a corrupted message or a virus.

1. Use the Web interface as previously indicated.

2. Install Pegasus and do a "selective mail download" - this will only download the headers. Select all headers that you don't want and mark them for deletion - make it so.

3. Contact the ISP and have them blast them out for you.

glc----- This program has saved my butt many times.

What is Popcorn?

Popcorn is a lightweight e-mail client for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003.

* Works as a client/server application, reading mail "directly" from POP servers, including those that require APOP MD5 secure authentication.

You can delete headers at the server w/out a download

One method of filtering email thru Outllook Express is to .....

1. Create a "Friends and Family" folder

2. Filter #1, Send all mail to Delete Items Folder

3. Filter #2, Copy emails from those in the Addressbook to the "Friends and Family" folder (Move doesn't seem to work).

4. Set the Delete Items folder to empty upon exit.

Now you can cut right thru the spam and access email from people you know.
The down side is those NOT in your addressbook will have difficulty emailing you.
