Transfering Outlook Express Files
Hey,
I was just wondering if any of you PC Mechers knew where the inbox files from Outlook Express are located - my dad wants to transfer files from a Dell laptop to a Sony laptop, using probably infared. I do know that "Outhouse" Express saves the files to a cache, in other words, every time you "Send/Receive", you are in essence, saving the server Inbox files onto your computer. Any suggestions are very much appreciated ![]() Thanks, kram

Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > MAINTENANCE > Store Folder
That should give you the location of the store folder. |

Thanks Statica - it did quite literally give me a path to the store folder
![]() As for the transfering part - do I just infared that files (inbox.dbx) across into the same files where the store folder is there - in other words, just replace it? Should it work then? Or is there a simpler way of transfering all the 60+ MB worth of files...(definately not internet - my dad uses dialup, and that's just a pain to transfer). Thanks, kram |

Exactly. What I'd suggest is to first create the same accounts that you have on the master computer & note down the store folder.
Now shut down OutlookE and copy the files over to the new computer. As for transfer, you surely need to use sthing faster than IR (wayy too long) how abt bluetooth? or writing to CD? |

Writing it to a PC might be an option - I thought that infared would be the fastest way - transfered 3MB .doc files in just about 25 seconds. I basically have three options I came up with - infared, CDRW, Jumpdrive (256MB), or Ethernet cable. Do you othink CDRW might be the best here?
Thanks, kram |

Jumpdrive/CDRW might be the best if the laptops arent already networked. If they are then there isnt too much of an issue, if they arent - configuration takes more time.

Thanks Statica - I just called my dad, trying to give instructions from Ohio to California over the phone
. I told him to transfer the store folder for Sent Items and Inbox over to the Store Folder on the Sony laptop he intends to use, using the jump drive as a medium. It worked, and he had all his files from the old Dell to his new Sony. Thanks, kram |
