msa.dll
Whenever i boot up this laptop, AVG alert comes up and says it has found a trojan in c:\windows\system32\msa.dll. For a few hours it would just say that and i could hit ok and run avg, even though avg couldnt remove it. Now it will boot, get that alert, then get a blue screen and restart real quick. It isnt a BSOD, but from what i can get from it, it looks like a memory fault.
Also, if i boot into safe mode, there is no such file, msa.dll. All hidden files are shown, but msa.dll doesnt seem to exist. And of course, System Restore is turned off . some people...Thanks ^dan Sony Vaio PCG-FXA63 Windows XP Home SP1 AMD 1600+ 256mb RAM |

Hmmmm, a system restore might help. To re-enable it, right click "My Computer", go to Properties>System Restore, untick the "Turn off system restore" box.
If you think you have a memory defect, download memtest to test it. Go here.

Boot into safe mode, run an online virus scan. Will that detect and remove it?
Try Ad-aware and Spybot, although this is a trojan it might pick it up. Turn off restart on error, and try again. If no joy try disabling AVG, does the system start up? |

If system restore is turned off, there's nothing to restore.
