Word not working?
I just ghosted the hard drive in my other computer onto a faster, quieter one. Everything works fine except when I open MS Word it says "An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run setup and select 'Repair...' to restore this application." I click OK and it opens like normal and works fine. Why would it do this? The MS Office XP CD image I had on the hard drive doesn't seem to work anymore either. I had it on there so I wouldn't have to keep putting in the CD to install little things that I find out I need.

Seek out and destroy the defualt template Normal.dot
It'll get rebuilt next time you launch Word. |

Hey, I know this is an old thread but I just remembered I made it. I have been living with the error message but I was getting tired of it so I thought I'd try your suggestions. I did a search for "normal.dot" and it came up with nothing. Any other ideas?

Make sure you use the option to search for hidden files too. The file is hidden. On my system it's in "C:\Documents and Settings\Samson\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates", change "Samson" with your login name.

normal.dot should be there as it is the template (DOcument Template - DOT) that you have for opening a default/blank word document. As already mentioned it is autmatically created should one not exist
I have Office 2003 but the locations should be the same at C: Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates. I can send one if you want PM with email addy.
