winrar

Are there any winrar experts in the house? I was trying to extract a .tar file , actually several and everytime I try it says I am missing another part to file it gives the file and folder location and then ends with .t00. I don't have a problem with .rar files but 5-6 .tar files get stuck every time. Is this a problem with all files I have gotten(seems unlikely) or is the demo winrar causing the issue? Any help would be great.

Files could be corrupted.

Sometimes winrar has problems with tar files. Try power archiver, from download.com. That works all the time, so if it doesnt, the file is corrupt.

I believe that archive is spanned and all you really have to do is feed it the next part of the archive.

Well as long as he started the extraction from the first file(u have to anyways, it would give you an error telling you to), then it shouldnt need to be told where the next file is, unless it is in a different folder.

You can open the first archive to see how many files are inside. There may be one, or there could be 100, but when compressed with winrar, you can choose your desired filesize, and it will make span the files over however many .xx files.

Ok thanks I didn't have that much difficulty with .rar files. regardless i just got home, downloaded power archiver and voila, I am in business again, extracted like a champ. Thanks a ton. It maybe that i am doing something wrong with winrar, but if power archiver works for a dumby like me I am happy.

Not trying to veer off from my topic too much, but rather than starting another thread...Now that i got it to extract, rather than like most .tar files where it is broken up into 2 files 1 cue and bin file per cd I have 1 huge iso file (1.3gig) is there any way to split this myself, or another possibility...could I just burn it onto a dvd instead and have it work the same way as a cd would?
