DVDs that contain movies are not interlaced. At least the content isn't, the DVD could have been encoded interlaced anyway.
VCD used MPEG-1, MPEG-1 doesn't support interlace anyway, and it has only half the resolution, so the video has to be deinterlaced no matter what. Quote:

These days it may not be worth it to purchase DVD to VCD software. DVD burners are very inexpensive and there is freeware to run them.
But some of us are still on tight budgets. There is excellent freeware for this: EasyVCD; DVDx 2.2; VCD2SVCD; TMPGEnc (for encoding a splitting files); VCDEasy V.1.15 (for burning; very good and easy). How many are still free, I don't know. But you may have to search the internet, especially for VCDEasy V.1.15. It's still available but hrd to find.

I canīt buy a DVD-RW unit now (in my country the prices are about U$ 200 for the old ones) so I have to do this with my actual hardware, So do I have to use the deinterlace option always because I am converting to VCD? or do I leave it unchecked? I like this program because I need Subtittles without too much complication.
