Burning ISOs

If I burn an ISO to a CD-R, will it work aas a bootable CD, (installing Linux), or do I have to extract the files, and then burn the files to CD. What do you do with the Linux ISOs so they will install the operating system?

A CD burnt from ISO is bootable because of the nature of the ISO image; what is it that you are trying to do exactly? Make a bootable ISO image or burn an ISO?

In general, for Linux operating systems, simply burn from the ISO (do not extract it); and it should be a bootable CD.

If you want to burn a Linux ISO image, you don't need to extract anything, just use the "burn image" feature in your favorite CD burning app, in Nero it's under File > Burn image.

And yes, the CD will be bootable.

Thanks. I use Nero Express, so hopefully it will be in there.

An ISO is an exact copy of a CD in file format, so it contains all boot information and all copyright information (if present).

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how to you create an ISO without burning it to a cd? The file I need burned to a disk is too big, it's like 796mb and my cd-rw's are only 700mb. Can anyone help me?

Hijack it all you want now, I got my answer. Are you trying to make that 796mb file 700mb? Or do you just need to convert the 796mb file to ISO so you can use something like Daemon Tools to emulate a CD drive?

Uh, yeah, sure, I'll go with that, lol. I've got a .bin and .cue file that are supposed to be burned to disk. These files together are 796mb (the .cue is only a few kb). I'm guessing it needs to be put in an ISO format and burned to disk. But you can run ISO's off your h/d right? So then I wouldn't need to burn it.

You need a bin to iso converter, somethin glike WinISO, that will make your BIN file and ISO. Then get Daemon Tools and mount the image, and bam ready to install. The .cue file isn't important.

Alright. Hope it works. Also note, the trial version of WinISO only makes an ISO of up to 100Mb I think....

I'll post in this thread instead of making a new one:

I have a movie on my HD but it's a folder (actually it's two folders, the movie is two CD's big) and it's got lot's of .rar's and some other weird files in it. I have no idea what to do to be able to see the movie. All the rar's seem to have the same .bin and .cue inside of them so unrarring them all into the same folder is impossible.
I tried unrarring one and then using daemon tools to mount it in a virtual drive, but that didn't work.

So long story short, how do I play this movie?

PS: I also couldn't burn it as a video CD with Nero.

extract all the files into the same place.. dont put them into their own folders.... then it should create 1 big file that you should be able to burn

But if I extract them into the same folder each file just overwrites the last. The names are all identical..

it does work... its the way it was made... all the files were split up into different files that are the same size and when you extract them back into the SAME folder they will all come together and create 1 big normal file.. i have done it a few times so i no it will work

I'll try it, thanks. But what about the other files (.r31 through .r52 files)? Do I need to use those in some way?

Extract the first file only, the others will auto extrat if the first one is extracted...I learned that the hard way vy sitting behind my computer for an hour while it extracted 50 files, little did I know that it was doing the same thing 50 times and overwriting the previous file. I selevceted every file and extracted it, rather than simply extracting the first one, which would have taken about 59 minutes less...

Yeah man, I learned that the hard way too. I did the first CD manually, extracting each file seperately. The second CD I just selected all the rar's and extracted at once.

Thanks guys!
