recovery console
I have had problems with my pc managed to get to the recovery console by inserting xp disc, but don't know what to do now, can anyone help?
my pc was running straight to "problem with starting windows would you like to run safe mode, etc, tried them all to no avail. I would like to try and recovery my hard drive is this possible, please help, didnt back up like a fool desperate now !! |

Instead of the recovery console, try a recovery installation. Insert the XP disc, then when it boots up, choose "Install" (not the recovery console). It will see that you have an installation already, so at this point choose "repair." Hope that works.

oh dear i think i have done a big big big boo boo. I clicked on the install as you said, but there was no choice of repair. I think this might be because when i went into recovery console earlier i choose fixmbr....have i deleted my hard drive now ? i really hope not, living up to my name big time now

If there is no repair option, try going to recovery console, then navigating to somewhere, i.e. C:\WIndows\System32 if you can post back, if not you have deleted the windows directory and only a reformat will get you up and running.
Just a little aside: I, and other members, will prefere if you put all you specs in as little space as possible, currently with the name bar on top you have to scroll down enough, but your sig makes it even longer. Try putting it on one or two lines (sperating it with commas etc) and putting a line break in so you don't get a extra long width. |

it comes back after i type in the windows\system32 the command is not recongnized ? does this mean ive lost my hard drive data ?
