Sudden computer slowed/lag in games

I dont know why, but all of a sudden my computer is being slow, and lagging ALOT in games...

I thought it was norton, so i removed it, but it still continued... Ad aware and spybot pick nothing up... Ive defragged, deleted temp files. Still nothing...

Specs: asusp4p800, 512 corsair, 80 gig maxtor, radeion 9800 pro, 512 corsair memory

theres no reason i shouldn't be able to run at max settings, but even if i dont im still lagging...

this is really getting alittle irritating...

any help is appreciated

thanks

Make sure you have updated drivers.

Also if you removed Norton, you're going to need some sort of AV. Check out AVG for that.

Perhaps testing your memory wouldn't be a bad idea either. Use Memtest86 to do that.

. . . I like andy's memory check idea - and might want to run with the case open for a bit to see if it makes a difference. . . It's the hot summer months now, and a hot case might make for some P4 "throttling" [slowdown to prevent damage from overheating] (it's builtin to the chip, and many motherboard's have a version as well)
