I want to know what are good quilty cd-r, cd-rw's, dvd-r, and dvd-rw's. Also I wanted to know what is a good burning program for dvd, music, etc. And do I need a printer to make cd labels, or can I do it with the cd-rw or dvd-rw drive?

For CD/DVD labels or do print directly onto a CD or DVD you need a printer. The burner can't do that.
A good burning software is Nero Burning ROM. For a Video DVD I'd use the latest 5.5, as Nero 6 seems to have problems .. at least it has problems with burning DVD+R DL. But you can also create an image and then burn the image with DVD Decrypter. IMHO the best quality DVD+R/+RW are Ricoh, and then comes Verbatim MCC. RJ

Nero is the best burning application I've used. I'm sticking with 5.5, which came with my CDRW, and it's great. That said, I don't want this to get into a flame war between Roxio and Nero.

Making audio CDs? The best program is iTunes. It's fast and efficient. It'll also make cd inserts.
The best program for making CD inserts and labels is Roxio. The easiest to burn is Windows Media Player 9. But its slow. It's like burning at 4x or something. If you have a lot of weird files, like .ogg, etc. Nero does a good job of that.

It depends a little on your specific needs etc. Both Roxio and Nero will do a pretty good job. Are you looking to print cd labels and/or cd inserts?
If you want to print straight onto the cd you need a special printer, etc. To print on the labels there are several programs but Roxio is probably your best bet. Take a look at www.surething.com for there 15 day trial progam and look at www.buskerdoo.com for wholesale cd labels and cd inserts, etc. |

I'll be printing straight onto the cd, I found a epson printer on newegg that does it but I also need a scanner. Does any one know a all in one printer that can also print straight on the cd and where to get it? So I should go with Roxio for that right?

There are some combo printers out there. Take a look at Epson R800. Prints on paper, and cd's and does photos. It get good ratings for cds and photos but not great for text. There is anothe the Epson R300M. Maybe the predisesor to the 800 and it's cheaper. Don't think the 300 got good reviews though. These Epson printer probably tka the 6+ ink cartriges that are pricey. Take a look aty EZ/CD 57000 CD Printer. There are others out there. Just do a google search. cdrguy |

Your question isn't really fair. You'll need to find what media works best with YOUR burner. Media_a might be great for Bob, but less than spectacular for Mary. If you're fishing in the pool of cheap expect to build a coaster collection. ;p
Second to what burning hardware you're using is what are you going to do with your CDs DVDs? Some home DVD players only like DVD-R while others will only play DVD+R head over to http://www.cdrlabs.com/ for more suggestions see also http://www.cdrfaq.org/ http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php Tayo Yuniden is highly regarded |
