hi all just had a few questions about ghost imaging i just downloaded it from syamntec and was gonna make a image before xp sp2 comes out.
if some thing happened and i need to use these cds i made would i use them like the cd that i use to install windows and install everything with the ghost image or do i have to install windows normally then when windows is up then run the ghost image from windows itself? next question i have is when it ghosts a image of windows does it copy the registry too for all my programs and partitions or will i have to reinstal all that stuff in the registry? thanks |

Ghost image is just that. A image of the drive registry and all. You would restore from that image.
Chas You could store the image on another partition or HD also. Chas

There is a way to make the Ghost image bootable but I don't know how.
When using Ghost you do not need your XP CD as you are dealing with a Ghost image that is created after you get XP loaded and set up. You get it the way you want it with all the updates and service pack and then create the image. If then you have a HD failure or just want to format and start over due to a virus or some other problem you can restore your Ghost image. I don't mess with Ghosting my drive anymore since I got cable. I can load XP and the service pack in the time I can restore a ghost image and then download the updates. Chas |

First here is where you go to understand how to use Ghost Radified Guide To Ghost.
As long as you can boot to Windows, just run Ghost from there. If you plan to write directly to CD or DVD, you will be well advised to VERIFY those files. These types of programs sometimes don't do so well at being directly written to CD/DVD. Also, if you do write to CD/DVD (and compress the files), don't "overclean" your hard drive first. That is, don't run a defragmenting before making the ghost. I've found that that makes a poor CD. They run fine directly from the hard drive, but somehow that defragmenting overcompresses, especially if you use an eraser type program along with it.
