Purchasing Adobe Premiere Pro 2.5

I'm getting ready to order this package:
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe After Effects Standard
  • Adobe Audition
  • Adobe Encore DVD
from www.academicsuperstore.com for $495. Seems like a great deal. Premiere Pro is a great app from all I've heard.

I'm assuming After Effects is full of extra transitions and graphics, etc.?

Encore authors the DVDs, adding menus and the like, correct?

What does one use Audition for? Sound editing, I've read, but what would be it's primary uses?

Thanks!

Audition is for audio editing - it's the old Cool Edit Pro from Syntrillium. Keep in mind with Premiere Pro you need a minimum of 1Gig RAM to run. BTW, the package is Video Collection 2.5 but the Premiere that comes bundled with that package is v.1.0. They have not put v.1.5 in that package yet - at least not to my knowledge.

Check out the product link HERE . I grabbed the Pro bundle for a little more, as it comes with Photoshop, also. It lists 1.5 as the version, so I guess that's good. I have 512 of RAM presently with a 2.4C processor. Will that get me started for now, or is an upgrade pending?

I'm just tired of trying to squeeze remotely decent projects out of Studio 8 and Corel 9... I'm scaring myself by getting serious with this purchase, but the work keeps presenting itself. Time to learn some new stuff, I suppose.

Premiere Pro needs 1Gig of RAM. 512Meg won't cut it. And I'm glad to see they've started bundling 1.5 in the Video Collection.

sonic, with all due respect, i have been running premiere pro w/ 512 on my machine. granted, it doesn't fly, but its holding me over until i can get my new computer. a couple of my friends run it with 512 as well. it might be recommended to have 1 gig, but it'll run with 512

The specs mention 1Gig is needed when running more than 1 of the apps. I guess if you want to multitask (which I do alot) then that's the way to go. Is more than 1Gig necessary? I thought I read somewhere that 1Gig was the extent of useful RAM at this point, or that anymore was overkill. That true with graphics-intensive programs like this?

Okay, let me re-phrase my statement: Minimum system requirements are 256Meg, 1Gig is recommended and 1Gig is required to multi-task with Premiere Pro. I've seen Premiere Pro running on a 512Meg machine - if you can tolerate something that slow, more power to you. I guess I'm just used to my finished product being done the same day I started rendering

yes, i know what you mean - it can be slow at times. unlike you, however, i am normally doing shorter movies that don't require a lot of rendering time. i can see why you would want that extra speed. guess it just depends on what you are using it for

I def will be adding RAM up to a Gig, but is more than that worth getting or would you be able to tell a difference?

After Effects needs more RAM than Premiere and a faster processor depending, of course, on the size of what you are rendering.
