Large Backup necessary, suggestion?
I have about 20 gigs of data that I need to back up. Rather than sit there and divide up the data in to 4.2 gig chunks, can someone recommend a program that will simplify this and possible even compress it a bit?
Thank you.

Every archive program, like WinAce, WinRAR, WinZip etc. should have an option for this. I know WinAce does, coz that's what I use, and WinZip has it, too, coz that is what I used in the past.

Could you be more specific as to what it does?
I would like something where I select all the data that I want backed up and then I just keep feeding my DVD drive blanks until is complete? Is this what you're saying WinAce does? |

If you have Nero burning software, look for its backup function - this will do the splitting and burning for you automatically - just keep feeding it DVD's when it prompts. In my Nero 6 Ultra - it's called Nero BackItUp.

Your easiest option may be to just buy a backup HDD. The 40 gig drives are getting really cheap. If it is just backup you could even get a 5400 rpm drive since speed is not really an issue.

Sonic Simple Backup will do what you are talking about.
If you plan on backup 20gigs or more worth of data often, it may be time to invest in a tape drive. |
