Anti Virus other than NORTON

I need some kinda of antivirus other than norton that does a great job of protecting.. Norton just slows me down everytime my comp boots up.... And has only caused me troubles. I heard AVG was good... anyone to back that up?

Been using AVG for years with Windows, without any problems what so ever.

Cool

Another vote for the free version of AVG. Been running it on 3 PC's for over a year without any problems. http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

Another vote here for AVG. I use AVG free on both of my machines. I've had it on my old machine for the past 3 years and the new machine for almost a year and I have had no problems with it on either system.

Definately NOD32 if you can lay down 40 USD for a year's subscription. It's definately worth it and is definately effective and unnoticible. My HP Desktop uses it very nicely. AVG is otherwise a good freeware alternative - typing to you from a computer that has it.

Hope that helps,
kram

Well.. I got AVG... and I ran it... somehow it managed to dig up 11 or so Trojans/Downloaders... Not really sure how they got there, since i just reformatted... So, AVG put them in the "Vault"... But i want them deleted........ Anyone know how to get rid of them ?

I would just leave it there - your computer should be safe when the viri are put into the viri vault. Nothing to worry there.

If you want to delete the files from the vault, open up AVG, go to Program > AVG Virus Vault, select the files, and delete them.

I use a bunch of them. I think good virus writers are able to fool virus programs, especially the installed programs. GO HERE for a list of freebies.

I use AVG 6 free edition as my installed anti-virus program. It's not perfect, but it does a decent job. I back it with HouseCalls by MicroTrend. There seems to be a couple of viruses that AVG doesn't find that MicroTrend does.

I also use RAV and Panda for zipped files. They each have found viruses the other two didn't.

ya, its kind of a hassle to start running online virus scanners, etc...
i use AVG and its just perfect, you're gonna have some problems uninstalling NAV (i have.. decided to just reformat and install AVG) and its just great! www.grisoft.com
i suggest you just back up what u need and reformat, to get rid of that crappy NAV that just grabs your registry and is really awful anyhow...
AVG ALL DA WAY! :-P

hope that helped,
