2.5x icon popped up on my desktop?
what exactly is this? it only popped up after i had to upload my friends site somewhere using i.e. (not mozilla)
i also had some other wierd stuff just appear. a steam installer of cs, and some other unnamed progs just popping up all over... |

That looks like the quick launch bar. It should be down on the toolbar to the right of the start menu. To turn it off, right click on the toolbar, and click "properties". Uncheck "show quick launch".

i know the quick launch bar is there, i have that purposly, its the bottom icon on the desktop that says 2.5x
avg, housecall, spybot and ad aware found nothing |

I doubt it. Gnome is a Linux GUI, that has to be something else.
