I think I remember a program 'mailwasher' that was kind of an outlook replacement. I think you could see the messages that you got before you downloaded from the server and if you got a spam email, you could do a 'bounce' to bounce back the email and the spam server would delete your email address. I believe it only worked with pop3 email and not internet mail accounts like Yahoo or MSN. It's been a long time so hopefully someone else may have some ideas.

I'm using Mailwasher. It's doing a very good job of keeping spam out of my Inbox. My spam problem could be described as little to none. I've known others who were receiving hundreds per day. For them, Mailwasher had a tendency to choke and even lock up their systems when dealing with large amounts of spam (not sure why).

We ended up configuring their Message Rules to only retain mail from those in their Addressbook and to delete everything else. It's somewhat restrictive but for them it was the lesser of two evils.

I'm not sure Mailwasher actually deletes mail off of the server. I think you still download the email, then Mailwasher completely deletes the unwanted email after that.

For me, Mailwasher works great

i really like cloudmark's spamnet. there is a 30-day free trial, and after that its like $40 per year. its done a lot of good for me, and it works with both outlook and outlook express.

basically, any time you see spam that does not get deleted, you hit a button which deletes the file, but it also sends the information back to spamnet who then distributes it to all the clients. its like a network defending you against spam. its kinda expensive, but in my opinion, its worth it
