Goldmine V6 reports

anybody out there who knows about generating reports in goldmine and doesn't use a 3rd party reports package like crystal. I am trying to generate some useful reports just using the reporting facility within goldmine. am having a few problems..
i am trying to produce a report that is similar to the phone calls log report in "Analysis reports" but would like to be able to include a user defined field which i sue for industry codes. Anyway of doing this?
Also, the history wide line report in "contact reports" doesn't give any totals. Anyway i can change this?

thanks

goldmine is a contact management database, much like Act. Mostly used for business development / sales contact management.
possibly only distributed in the uk/europe, not sure.
