Broken live update

Around the same time my wife updated AOL to 9.0, my Norton live update started failing to get the new virus definitions. The error message says try it again when I have a working connection to the Internet. I do in fact have a good connection. I have the live update configured to happen nightly, so I can't say for sure this was the problem, but it's close enough to suspect AOL.
I uninstalled the 'port magic' software that was part of the 9.0 upgrade, and besides screwing up networking on the machine, it had no effect. I fixed that mess but still can't retrieve the new virus defs.
Environment:
Cable modem
Lynksys 4 port router ( all the ports are open)

The other machines in my home network can get the new virus defs.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks.
Jim

I had a problem with norton (not with AOL like you) but just with the updater. You did not give the exact error message, but the solution link below for mine may still help.

In the middle of the page are three 'more manual' solutions and it took going through to #2 before I got the update to work again.... seems a corrupted update file can cause the problems and who knows how deep AOL got into the rest of your PC...

good luck - I found the symantec search function on their site looking of course for my error to be very helpful if this is not right/helpful
