Wild Tangent

In my control panel there is a Wild Tangent Control Panel. Does anyone know what it is? I would like to get rid of it for it seems to be of no use, plus I have heard it is spyware. It installed with my x800 PRO. When installing the drivers it asked if I wanted some games installed on my PC, I hit yes thinking they would be little games like Microsoft games, but it just turned out to be shareware.

Uninstall all the game junk. Then do a Search for *.cpl. When you see the wt.cpl, delete it and Wild Tangent will be gone. You'll need file extensions enabled in Folders/view before the search.

Wild Tangent is considered somewhat borderline spyware/adware. It's bundled with some versions of AOL, and is necessary for some online games. If you do a quick Google search on it, you'll find all sorts of opinions on it, both pro and con - it's pretty much up to you. They have a website with their security policies spelled out on it, and you can remove it from that same Control Panel applet, I believe [ or try Add/Remove Programs ... SpyBot Seach&Destroy & AdAware 6 will also remove it if you choose]

I have unistalled it through both spybot adaware and Add/remove programs. But it is still there in my control panel. Will deleting the cpl delete it from the control panel or just the program itself.

.cpl is the Control Panel id. It will be gone. I use this method all the time.

I delted the two files "wtcpl" but Wild Tangent is still there do I need to delete it from the recycle bin too? I thought that the bin pretended like it wasn't there to see if your system ran okay without it.

Did you uninstall WT from the Add/Remove programs area first? Glad you got it but I've never had a .dll cause the CP icon to hang around. Appreciate the feedback.

When I saw Wild Tangent pop up in spybot I went and unistalled by Add/Remove, I then ran spybot and some files popped up again. I told it to delete these. The program was gone but the control panel was there. I found and deleted the cpl files like you said but it stil remained. I then went to the WT website and found this.

Please Note: If the WildTangent Control Panel icon still appears in the Windows Control Panel, you may need to search your computer's hard drive for any occurrence of the files "wtcpl.dll" and "wtcpl.cpl" and remove it. This occasionally occurs when an older version of the Web driver was partially removed.

Searching and deleting for the .dll removed it.
