Go to Network Connections in Control Panel. Disable the device there. Keep in mind, an ethernet connected system has faster data transfer (download) rates than wireless.

Try deleting all of the network adapters in device manager and rebooting. Did you have a PCI NIC or was it onboard? If onboard, you may be able to disable it in the BIOS, then Win wouldn't even see it upon reboot.

You shouldn't have to delete the connection. In the device manager you should be able to click the box for the onboard adapter. Go to properties and find the box that say's 'disable in this profile' in the device manager. That should take care of the problem. If you delete it, every time you boot the computer up, if you have UPnP enabled, it will try to reload the onboard adapter every time.

If all you want to do is get rid of the annoying icon, you might not have to disable anything but the icon itself:
Go to Control Panel, Network Connections, and select the adapter whose icon you no longer wish to view in the system tray. Then right-click and select "Properties", and remove the checkmark from "show icon in system tray when connected". See if that does it. If not, it won't harm anything to disable that adapter. But you might have to boot into Safe Mode and logon as Administrator to do that. edit: Sorry, I hadn't paged my browser down far enough to see that you already fixed things......... Sure wired ethernet is capable of greater bandwidth than 802.11x wireless, but how many people are actually using an internet provider with such speeds? |

tru slotz, very tru :-P
im not sure, any CAT5 cable can reach 1000megabits transfer ? it all depends upon the card or what? and 54mbps is more than enough for me :-P i cant get sharing to work, i might post it as a new topic later on once my bro will be back from the us and we'll actually need it. 10x, KoMoDo |

Gary, even with that box unchecked, it will still pop up when it's disconnected.
100 megabits is a theoretical max - most 10/100 adapters I've seen top out around 60. |

how did u check the download ? its not always exact, every minute can differ greatly upon broadband test servers, they might become overloaded, down, etc...
u can DEFINETELY reach the same speed if u only have 3000mbit download, wireless is at least 11 mbps (im on 54mbps) KoMoDo |
