Long Load times, Fast computer?

I bought Far Cry and DOom III. My computer is alright for gaming as you can see in my signature... but loading to get into the game.. takes a longggg time.. then when you get into the game, you have to load the level.

Is it normal to get a long load time before it gets into the game?

Yes, it's normal. Doom 3 takes about 2 minutes max to load, FarCry, never played it but hopefully will soon once I am freed of my obligations .

RAM and HDD are the biggest factors in loading times, I *think*. What are the specs on your HDD? 2mb cache, 8mb? 7200rpm? A fast HDD with a large cache makes a big difference when loading up games.

No that's not normal. It takes me about 5-10 secs to load the Doom 3 main menu.

Make sure you hit esc when the id movie comes up.

Scan for adware/malware/spyware, defrag your hard drive and close down unnecessary programs when playing the game.

And make sure dma mode is enabled on you hard drive.
