New problem

Hey guys,

In my previous thread entitled "Hmmm..." where I had to install the correct drivers for my VGA controller and my USB controller, everything seemed to work better. Now, I can't play videos properly. Some videos I can play and some I can't. I was thinking of reverting back to the time when I didn't install the drivers by using System Restore so that I could make my videos work again. Any ideas?

TIA...

Problem solved But at a set back . I had to do a System Restore to a point before I installed the last of the motherboard drivers. It turned out that the videos I wanted to play will not work with the drivers I installed for some strange reason. I can now see the videos, but the drivers are not there. I'm now back to having to use XP's standard drivers.

The video problem was probably due to the lack of having the right codecs. The AC3 codes usually take care of it.

We must have the motherboard model. You probably need to download newer drivers than are on the CD, and also install the latest DirectX.

Use Belarc or Everest to get the exact model if you can't read it off the motherboard itself or your manual doesn't have it right on the cover.

The videos that I wanted to play but couldn't, only use the DivX 5.11 codec, I think. Is that what you mean? I actually had that downloaded and installed well before I installed the last of the motherboard drivers, so I don't know why the videos didn't work afterwards. Hence why I did a System Restore so they would play again.

Do you have the link to Everest and Belarc? I think Masaeus gave me the link to Everest but I can't find it now.

Call me paranoid(which I am! ), but I'm actually kinda worried that if I go to download the latest drivers than are on the disk and try to play the videos again, they won't work again and then I'd have to do another System Restore.

EDIT: I also must add that what I mean by the videos not playing, is that they did play, but not properly. The image was distorted like there were black shutter blinds over the video so all I could see were just very narrow slits of the video. This was happening -after- I installed the motherboard drivers for the Video controller and the USB controller.

I was assuming you were using WMP9

Oh lol. Yeah, sorry, I am using WMP9. Will downloading the new WMP10 resolve this issue?

EDIT: Also, glc, thanks very much for that link

No idea. Haven't touched WMP10 yet.

Try downloading the AC3 codec: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/

Ok. Thanks very much for all of your assistance guys, it's really really been appreciated I have so many things to do and so many things on my mind since that I've now started the 12th year sixth form in my school. I just have so much to do. I've decided that I can pretty much live with using XP's standard drivers and continue to run how I have done ever since I got this computer, until I find some time to sort it out. I have copied and pasted this entire thread of mine into MS Word, ready to be written up and backed up later on. I'm going to be keeping it as a future reference for when I can sort this problem out and also maybe use it for some other similar problems I end up coming across. Once again, Force Flow, glc, thank you so very much for all of your help. It has been truelly appreciated
