_/*WIN XP*\_ Im having a problem installing it. Can someone help?

Hey there guys.

Here are my specs

Intel D865gbf motherboard
- Onboard Lan
- Onboard Sound
- Onboard Video
Intel p4 2.80 1mb l2 cahce prescott
Crucial 512mb DDR 400 RAM
Western Digital 80gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache HD
ATI Radeon 9600XT
SB Live Audigy
Generic Case w/ 400w Antec PSU
Lite on Combo DVD/CDRW Drive

And here is my issue.

I have gotten the computer up and runing and heat is becoming a smaller issue. Today I was installing the OS and it suddenly turned off, not good. So I reinstalled the CPU and it worked fine except when i booted with the WIN XP disc it said the error msg. "Error lodading O.S." I have no clue as to what this means? Any and all help will be greatfull, thx!

If it suddently turns off it can either be a trojan, or a powersuplpy issue.. Not enough power = unexpected reboots.
Error loading O.S. should be a simlpe reformat fix, or in another case I had the HD ribbon was bad.. Try reformatting and if that doesn't work go buy another ribbon.

suddenly shutting down could be a bad PSU, but also you've irreperably heat damaged your CPU. Heat is not your friend -- all the more reason to avoid overclocking and simply buy the equipment designed for the speeds you want.

Yes, if I could reformat. Whenever I turn on my pc It just stays at the Error msg. screen. Even when no disc is present in the disc drive. Please Help!

Intel P4's will not blow up from heat. They simply shut down with no damage. Besides, if the CPU was damaged, you wouldn't even get a POST screen.

If you reinstalled the CPU, did you thoroughly remove the thermal interface material and use compound or a new pad? The material supplied with the heatsink is only good for 1 use.

Are you sure the CD drive is the first boot device in the bios?

Sorry about b4, anyway.
What do you mean by one use? Cuz when I got the cpu I removed the the thermal pad and applied some thermal greece to it and things are starting to look up. Is there any way i could buy a nother pad or is the inevitible that im going to have to buy a nother heatsink? Thx for the reply! nomorexposting!!!!

If you removed the pad, you need to thoroughly clean the heatsink so there is no residue left from the pad and the heatsink surface should be smooth. Thermal grease needs to be applied very sparingly, too much will actually cause higher temperatures. A blob about the size of a grain of rice is plenty, spread it out evenly in a VERY thin layer on top of the CPU. Every time you remove the heatsink, the grease should be cleaned off the heatsink and CPU with alcohol and a fresh layer applied.
