Services?

Hey,

I am running Windows 2000 Professional and one of the programs that is running is a "SERVICES.EXE". While realizing that this is a important windows file, I don't understand why about every 30 or so seconds, it takes up all the computer memory and resources for about 5-6 seconds. Any ideas?
